The Veja Story
Kopp and Morillion were 24 years old and working in banking when they decided to spend time visiting sustainable development projects around the world — and came away disappointed by what they found. They launched Veja in 2004 with the conviction that a commercial brand, done right, could have more impact than an NGO. The name means 'look' in Portuguese — a deliberate instruction to look at how things are made and who is behind them. From the beginning, Veja worked directly with organic cotton farmers in northern Brazil and rubber tappers in the Amazon, paying above fair trade prices and eliminating intermediaries. The trainers are produced in Brazil, where labour laws are stronger than in the Southeast Asian factories where most of the world's trainers are made.
The Veja Range
Our Veja collection focuses on the brand's most enduring silhouettes. The V-10 and V-12 are the backbone of the range — clean, considered trainer designs available in leather, suede, and canvas options, in a palette that moves through white, natural, and muted tones with occasional bolder accents. The Campo and Esplar styles offer further variations on the same clean aesthetic. All styles are available for men and women, with several unisex options across the range.
Why Veja?
Veja trainers cost five times more to produce than a comparable mainstream trainer — because of the organic materials, fair trade supply chains, and Brazilian factory wages. The retail price doesn't reflect that extra cost in full, because all the money that other brands spend on marketing goes into production instead. Wearing Veja is a straightforward choice: a trainer that looks genuinely good, is made genuinely well, and whose supply chain you can actually trace from farm to finished product.
