The Tricker's Story
Joseph Tricker founded the company in 1829 — eight years before Queen Victoria ascended the throne. His son-in-law, Walter James Barltrop, created the world's first country boot in 1840, establishing the brand's enduring identity as the originator of the English country brogue. The Goodyear welting process was introduced at the turn of the 20th century, and it remains central to everything Tricker's makes today. The brand received its first Royal Warrant in 1989 for shoemaking services to HRH The Prince of Wales — a warrant renewed in 2024 to HM King Charles III. Tricker's current Northampton factory, opened in 1904, is a Grade II listed building.
